If you haven't already heard, let me be the first to tell you that Kansas City, Kansas and Kansas City, Missouri "beat out" (though I still don't understand how that went down) everyone else across the nation to be the first to receive "Google Fiber". That's internet speeds 100 times faster than anything we country folks have ever seen.
Last Saturday morning, I told my supervisor that I would stop by to help her get ready for the final neighborhood sign-in before the Sunday Midnight deadline. It'd been a tough week for us. We still needed many residents to sign up for the service even though most did not have home computers.
As I was leaving, a guy with a camera showed up. I asked if he was with the media and he said that he was. "The New York Times" he said. I smiled and began to back away. "Why do people always do that," he asked laughing."
On Monday morning, around the table where our staff share coffee, stories and our vision for the neighborhood, we were told that "we" had made the big time. The New York Times. The front page. Click here to read our story and to see the photo of my wonderful and amazing supervisor.
